Prof. Arie Afriansyah, Ph.D.

Arie Afriansyah is an Professor of Public International Law at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia, where he has been a member of the academic staff in the International Law Study Division since 2008. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (S.H.) from Universitas Indonesia (2003), a Master of International Law from the University of Sydney Law School, Australia (2006), and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Faculty of Law, University of Otago, New Zealand (2013). His academic expertise covers public international law, the law of the sea, international environmental law, the law of treaties, and international humanitarian law, with an extensive record of scholarly publications in national and international journals and edited volumes.
In addition to his academic role, Prof. Afriansyah holds several prominent leadership and editorial positions. He currently serves as Director for Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs at Universitas Indonesia; Chair of the Center for Sustainable Ocean Policy, Faculty of Law UI; General Chair of the Indonesian Society of International Law Lecturers (ISILL) for the 2020–2025 term; Editor-in-Chief of the Indonesian Journal of International Law and the Indonesian Yearbook of International Law; and a Member of the Executive Council of the Asian Society of International Law. He previously served as Chair of the Indonesian Association of Law Journal Editors (APJHI) from 2016 to 2020, and is actively engaged in policy-oriented research, academic capacity building, and international scholarly networks in the field of international law.
