“Journalistic Advocacy: Protection of Rights Arising from Refugee Marriages in Indonesia 2024” (Advokasi Jurnalistik Perlindungan Hak-hak yang Lahir Dari Perkawinan Pengungsi di Indonesia)
In 2024, CILS also executed a community service program focused on advocating for the rights of refugee marriages in Indonesia. The project “Journalistic Advocacy: Protection of Rights Arising from Refugee Marriages in Indonesia” addressed the legal ambiguities and lack of protection faced by refugees who marry in the country, given that Indonesia is not a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention.
The program utilized journalistic advocacy as its primary method, producing a documentary video to highlight the issue. The main goals of the project were to push for legal certainty for refugee marriages through media advocacy and to raise awareness among the public and relevant stakeholders about the rights that should arise from such unions.
